Education Coordinator
Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by
employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job and/or department.
DEFINITION
To coordinate all museum educational activities; organize and maintain museum photographic and document archives; perform research for upcoming museum exhibits and assist visitors
with research requests; schedule and lead tours through the museum.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Exercise functional and technical supervision over seasonal and special programs volunteers.
Receive direction from Rockpile Museum Director.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct tours of museum and explain history, use, and other interesting facts about the exhibits and collections.
- Develop and conduct education programs (such as demonstrations, classes, school tours, hands-on exhibits, and learning boxes) using the museum's collections and exhibits;
prepare materials for participants in educational programs.
- Maintain a professonal relationship with school district educators while promoting museum educational tours and materials.
- Coordinate educational tours and materials to coincide with school district curriculum.
- Catalog and organize photographic and document archives to ensure accessibility to the public.
- Respond to research requests using available museum resources.
- Manage museum gift shop; order supplies, stocks shelves, and track sales.
- Manage museum and Memorial Fund accounts; maintain records of all Memorial Fund donations and purchases.
- Maintain and compile statistics on museum visitation numbers and donations.
- Work closely with other staff members to coordinate museum needs, goals, and objectives.
- Design and publish quarterly museum newsletter; promote educational programs and speakers by developing flyers, brochures and other promotional materials for mail and local
distribution.
- Maintain the contents and track the Traveling Trunk sent to all schools in the district.
- Assist the Museum Director with writing grants for educational programs.
- Schedule volunteers, maintain accurate records of volunteer hours; coordinate the volunteer incentive program.
- Operate modern office machines and equipment including PCs, typewriters, printers, copiers, cash register, calculators, and fax machines; routinely use a full range of word
processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and
training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
- One to two years in museum education or teaching.
Education/Training:
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's or Master's degree in history or education.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR REGISTRATIONS:
Must be current or obtained within a specified time frame as defined upon employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Essential duties require the following:
Working Environment:
- Minimal exposure to undesirable working conditions or exposure.
Physical Activities:
- Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, and lifting an average of 50 lbs.
