Recreation Desk Assistant II
Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by
employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job and/or department.
DEFINITION
Provide information to the public about Recreation Center facilities, programs and special events; greet the public, answer phones, register program participants and assist the
Recreation Desk Supervisor with assigned duties.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Exercise direct supervision over assigned part-time staff.
Receive immediate supervision from Recreation Desk Supervisor.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Greet patrons; check-in, collect monies, and maintain record of transactions of patrons using the facility and equipment.
- Answer phone calls; provide appropriate information, route phone calls, or take messages as appropriate.
- Type, proofread, and word process routine documents.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner to ensure quality customer services at assigned facilities.
- Use a variety of software applications and modern office machines and equipment including PCs, typewriters, printers, copiers, calculators, and fax machines to create banners,
flyers, posters, and other miscellaneous forms or displays as directed.
- Receive program registrations and monies, accurately record registration information according to department procedures.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies, implement discipline and termination
procedures.
- Work on-call every 10 weeks or as assigned; close facility as assigned.
- Assist with a variety of department programs and special events.
- Adhere to office practices and procedures.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.
- Provide and/or demonstrate exercise equipment operation.

Knowledge of:
- Exceptional customer service.
- Office management principles.
- Principles and practices used in dealing with the public.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment.
- English usage, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, proofreading, and punctuation.
- Basic understanding of recreation programs, facilities, and services including league schedules and tournament brackets.

- Principles and practices of supervision relating to assigned staff.

- Operate modern office equipment.
- Operate and/or demonstrate the use of exercise equipment.

- Plan and organize work to meet schedules and time lines.
- Interact tactfully and courteously with the public in responding to requests, inquiries, and complaints.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and
training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
- One to two years in an office environment.
Education/Training:
- Equivalent to a high school education including general training and experience in the area of job assignment.

Essential duties require the following:
Working Environment:
- Minimal exposure to undesirable working conditions; considerable exposure to noise.
Physical Activities:
- Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for minimal physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, running, kneeling,
crouching/stooping/squatting, crawling, twisting upper body, and lifting an average of 10 lbs.
