RECYCLING CENTER SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION

Direct and coordinate recycling activities at the Campbell County Recycling Center.  Provide direction and training to recycling center employees.  Coordinate with landfill staff the baling of recycled commodities.  Prepare recycled commodities for shipment to market.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Exercise supervision of recycling staff and sorters.

Receive general direction from the Recycling Manager and the Landfill Superintendent.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Supervise, direct, and coordinate activities at the Campbell County Recycling Center.
  2. Implement directives from the Recycling Manager.
  3. Supervise, direct and coordinate recycling staff and sorters.
  4. Prepare commodities for shipment to market.
  5. Identify and report building maintenance requirements.
  6. Identify and report equipment maintenance and repair requirements; minor repairs.
  7. Ensure recycling center employees receive proper training for work-related activities.
  8. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  9. Attend and participate in staff meetings, safety meetings and related activities.

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

  • Identification of various recyclable commodities.
  • Principles of supervision and training of labor positions.
  • Operation and maintenance of Recycling Center.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Safe driving principles and practices in equipment operation.

Skill to:

  • Operate skidsteer loader and forklift.
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely.
  • Operate various recycling center equipment.

Ability to:

  • Supervise Recycling Center staff and sorters.
  • Meet DEQ and EPA compliance standards.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records.
  • Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
  • Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and under unfavorable weather conditions.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Experience:

  • Three years prior experience working in a recycling operation.

Education/Training:

  • Equivalent to a high school education plus specialized training in the field of recycling.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Manager of Landfill Operations (MOLO) Certification to be obtained within one year of employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working Environment:

  • Significant exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, chemicals, and dust.

Physical Activities:

  • Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for considerable physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping/crawling, twisting, climbing and lifting an average of 50 lbs.
