Event Custodial Supervisor

Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job and/or department.

DEFINITION

To supervise, direct, and/or perform the full range of custodial duties as they relate to the care, maintenance, and cleaning of assigned buildings and facilities; supervise or perform event set-up and tear down; provide other assistance as required by individual event and/or user. Work varied hours to include nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Exercise direct supervision over Senior Event Custodian, Event Custodian, and temporary/seasonal workers.

Receive direction from Operations Manager.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Supervise or provide proper facility setup for events, including, but not limited to, moveable walls, tables, chairs, stage, dance floors, bleachers, linen, place settings, trash containers, table skirting, carpet runners, electrical cords, etc. as determined by facility renters.
  2. Select, train, and evaluate assigned personnel to ensure proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures; assign tasks, projects, and monitor event custodial staff; participate in developing and implementing custodial methods and procedures.
  3. Provide routine custodial care for all Cam-Plex facilities, campgrounds, grandstands, and other areas as required. Work may include, but is not limited to, dusting, vacuuming, washing windows, washing floors, picking up trash, cleaning restrooms, etc.
  4. Develop and manage event custodial schedules, activities and services.
  5. Identify and report building maintenance needs. Perform minor repair work.
  6. Coordinate event setup with the Facilities Coordinator, customer and vendors to ensure proper setup and customer satisfaction while following Cam-Plex policies and procedures.
  7. Assist in developing annual custodial budget request; requisition supplies and materials.
  8. Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; requisition materials as required; order supplies as necessary and ensure supplies ordered are received in a timely fashion; disburse supplies to various buildings as needed; maintain inventory control.
  9. Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  10. Work varied hours to include nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  11. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  12. Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
    • Practices, methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in custodial work.
    • Multi-user event facility setup and tear-down procedures.
    • Characteristics and use of commercial custodial compounds.
    • Principles and practices of working safely.

    Skill to:

    • Operate a variety of custodial and industrial equipment in a safe and effective manner.
    • Operate a motor vehicle safely.
    • Operate modern office equipment.

    Ability to:

    • Plan, organize, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff.
    • Read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Independently perform the full range of custodial and setup/tear down work.
    • Interpret, explain, and enforce polices and procedures.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports.
    • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
    • Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
    • Independently perform the full range of custodial and set-up/tear down work.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Work varied hours to include nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

    Experience:

    • Five to six years of custodial work experience, setup experience, and operation of job related equipment. Two years supervisory experience.

    Education/Training:

    • Equivalent to a high school education including some specialized training.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATIONS:

    • Valid driver's license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Essential duties require the following:

    Working Environment:

    • Considerable exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; availability for shift work.

    Physical Activities:

    • Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for considerable physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping/crawling, twisting, climbing, and lifting an average of 60 lbs.
