Event Technician Supervisor

Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job and/or department.

DEFINITION

To supervise, direct and/or perform the full range of event set-up, tear-down, and maintenance duties for a wide variety of events. Provide other assistance as required by individual event and/or user; work varied hours to  include nights, weekends and holidays.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Exercise direct supervision over Event Technicians and temporary/seasonal workers.

Receive general direction from Operations Manager.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Supervise or provide proper event setup including, but not limited to, moveable walls, tables, chairs, stage, dance floors, bleachers, trash containers, carpet runners, electrical cords, etc. as determined by facility  renters.
  2. Select, train, and evaluate assigned personnel to ensure proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards and specifications; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct  deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures; assign tasks, projects, and monitor event technician staff; participate in developing and implementing safe event setup methods and procedures.
  3. Maintain event setup for Cam-Plex facilities, campgrounds, grandstands, and other areas as required. Work may include, but is not limited to, rodeo setup, cuttings, livestock sales, picking up trash and daily rentals. Clean and maintain stables, make repairs as needed.
  4. Develop and manage event technician schedules, activities and services.
  5. Coordinate event setup with the Facilities Coordinator, customer and vendors to ensure proper setup and customer satisfaction while following Cam-Plex policies and procedures.
  6. Assist in developing annual budget request; requisition supplies and materials. Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for assigned jobs; purchase supplies according to policy and as needed.
  7. Operate equipment and machinery in a safe and efficient manner as required by facility needs. Perform daily maintenance including oil levels, air and fuel filters, grease fittings and tire pressure checks.
  8. Maintain dirt arenas for all events as required.
  9. Coordinate and perform snow removal which may include plowing, hand shoveling and dispersing ice melting compounds as needed.
  10. Set-up, tear-down and transport various types of stalls, holding pens, bucking chutes, roping chutes, crows nest's, bleachers, animal cages and pens.
  11. Assist Event Custodians with event set-up, trash removal and bathroom checks as needed.
  12. Identify and report building maintenance needs. Perform minor repair work.
  13. Work varied hours to include nights, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  14. Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  15. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  16. Attend and participate in staff meetings, safety meetings, and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.

JOB RELATED AND ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
    • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices and procedures.
    • Safe operation of vehicles and equipment including tractors, water trucks, snow plows, hand and power tools.
    • Safe driving, equipment and tool use principles and practices.
    • Practices, methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in a wide variety of events.
    • Multi-user event facility setup and tear-down procedures.

    Skill to:

    • Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment including tractors with implements, forklift, dump truck, water truck, front end loader, pick-up with snowplow, welding truck and man lift.
    • Operate all hand and power tools and equipment safely
    • Operate a wide variety of communication equipment.

    Ability to:

    • Plan, organize, supervise, and review the work of assigned staff to meet event demands.
    • Read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
    • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public; interpret, explain, and enforce polices and procedures.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    • Work varied hours to include evenings, weekends and holidays.
    • Work in extremes of environmental conditions for extended shifts including nights, holidays and weekends.
    • Exercise good judgment, flexibility, creativity, and sensitivity in response to changing situations and needs.
    • Establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to  obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

    Experience:

    • Five to six years of related experience in event setup including the operation of job related equipment, including two years of supervisory experience.

    Training:

    • Equivalent to a High School education including some specialized training.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATIONS:

    • Valid driver's license.
    • Valid commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Essential duties require the following:

    Working Environment:

    • Significant exposure to cold, heat, noise, outdoors, vibration, confining work space, dust, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards; ability to travel to different sites; availability for emergency call or on call  duty.

    Physical Activities:

    • Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for significant physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping/squatting, crawling, twisting, climbing, and  lifting up to 60 lbs.; travel to different sites and locations.
