Occupational Therapist
Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties
performed by employees in the class. Specifications are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job and/or department.
DEFINITION
To provide a comprehensive Occupational Therapy program to children from birth through age five including screening, assessment, intervention and case management while
adhering to Rules and Regulations Governing Services to Children with Disabilities.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Exercise direct supervision over Occupational Therapy Assistant and student.
Receive direction from Early Intervention Coordinator.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Administer occupational therapy screening to children from birth through age five as requested by referrals from agencies, practitioners, families, and/or staff;
strictly adhere to all federal/state rules and regulations governing children with disabilities.
- Conduct evaluation of children in need of more in-depth occupational therapy assessment as requested by the case manager; compile findings and recommendations into
the trans-disciplinary team report; develop IEP/IFSP objectives in coordination with the Team and the family in order to meet the needs of the child; coordinate screening and evaluation of related service personnel as
deemed appropriate.
- Provide oral motor training and services to staff, children and families; provide direct occupational therapy sessions within the inclusive classroom and/or other
environments in order to meet the needs of the child and/or family.
- Develop materials for implementation of fine motor/sensory motor services.
- Actively participate in the Early Intervention Team; meet with other staff members as necessary to ensure effective service delivery and communication.
- Counsel and assist families in understanding their child's therapy program for effective carryover into the home; provide consultation and planning services for the
classroom and staff.
- Complete and maintain necessary paperwork/case documentation to ensure accountability.
- Actively pursue current trends in occupational therapy and state of the art techniques in early intervention services.
- Assist in writing goals and objectives for grant applications; compile necessary information for end-of-year grant reports.
- Provide professional presentations to individuals or groups.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge; serve on committees
as assigned.

Knowledge of:
- Principles and practices of occupational therapy.
- Instruments used in occupational therapy.
- Normal and atypical child development.
- Medical conditions and disabilities affecting children and their development.
- Early childhood teaching techniques and practices.
- Early childhood behavioral techniques.
- Wyoming Rules and Regulations governing services to children with disabilities.
- Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
- Principles and practices of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
- Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment.
- Interpersonal skills in order to deal with families and children regarding unique and sensitive issues.
- Principles and practices of working safely.
Skill to:
- Operate modern office equipment.
- Operate a motor vehicle safely.
Ability to:
- Adapt teaching techniques to each individual child.
- Work effectively with young children and their families.
- Maintain licensure requirements.
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Supervise the work of assigned staff.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES: Any combination equivalent to
experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience:
- Three to four years in pediatric Occupational Therapy.
Education/Training:
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must be current or obtained within a specified time frame as defined upon employment.
- Occupational Therapy Certification.
- State Licensure.
- Valid driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Essential duties require the following:
Working Environment:
- Moderate exposure to undesirable working conditions or exposure. Body fluids and working outdoors.
Physical Activities:
- Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate amount of physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, running,
kneeling, crouching/stooping/squatting, crawling, twisting upper body, climbing, and lifting an average of 45 lbs.
