Theater Manager

DEFINITION

To manage and direct the day-to-day operation, including staff and budget, of the Cam-Plex Heritage Center and to procure entertainment events; develop, maintain, and implement a comprehensive Arts in Education Program in partnership with the community which includes securing funding, marketing, public relations, and artistic direction.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Exercise direct supervision over Front of House, Technical Director, Arts Education Facilitator, assigned administrative staff, and seasonal/temporary workers.

Receive general direction from Cam-Plex General Manager.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Important and essential duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Provide a wide range of cultural and popular events for the citizens of Campbell County.
  2. Develop, implement, and evaluate internal programs and artistic policy.
  3. Develop, implement, and evaluate external programs with renters inside and outside of Campbell County, including local performance groups and businesses and private corporate events; serve as primary resource contact to users.
  4. Select, train, motivate, and evaluate assigned staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedure. Assign tasks, projects, and monitor assigned personnel.
  5. Develop, administer, monitor, and coordinate the Heritage Center budget.
  6. Secure funding for the Heritage Center Family Series and Arts in Education program through grant and proposal writing to include state and national agencies, local business and corporate foundations.
  7. Collaborate regularly with School District staff to create and form partnerships.
  8. Participate in a variety of Advisory Boards.
  9. Develop and oversee marketing and public relations for Family Series, Theatre Series, Arts in  Education program, and Special Heritage Center events.
  10. Develop and coordinate Heritage Center staff schedules for events.
  11. Attend national and state booking conferences to make contacts with artists and agents.
  12. Work with management and staff to schedule special, regional, and international events; enhance the overall success of the department.
  13. Contact, negotiate, and administer contracts with artists and/or representatives.
  14. Direct local efforts to inform the public of Heritage Center benefits to the community.
  15. Promote Heritage Center programming to the Northeast Wyoming region.
  16. Collaborate in design of Heritage Center graphic arts for public relations and marketing of Arts in Education events.
  17. Oversee grant compliance using a proper set of checks and balances.
  18. Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
  19. Attend and participate in staff meetings, managers meetings, and related activities; attend workshops, conferences, and classes to increase professional knowledge; serve on committees as assigned.

    Knowledge of:

    • Visual and performing arts.
    • Agents and the negotiation process including an understanding of contracts, contract riders, and finances.
    • Advanced fund raising and grant writing.
    • Principles and practices of marketing, sales, promotions, and public relations.
    • Principles and techniques used in interacting with the public.
    • Principles and techniques of negotiating.
    • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
    • Principles and practices of grants administration, preparation, and compliance.
    • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
    • Principles and practices of working safely.
    • Principles and practices of written communication.

    Skill to:

    • Operate modern office equipment.

    • Work extended hours as necessary during events.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

    Experience:

    • Five to six years in visual and performing arts with increasingly responsible supervisory and/or administrative duties. Prior experience in grant writing.

    Education/Training:

    • Equivalent to a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Theater Arts.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATE OR REGISTRATIONS:
Must be current or obtained within a specified time frame as defined upon employment.

Essential duties require the following:

    Working Environment:

    • Minimal exposure to undesirable working conditions or exposure.

    Physical Activities:

    • Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for minimal physical activity such as sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching/stooping/squatting, twisting upper body and lifting an average of 10 lbs.
