Upcoming events, programs, and exhibits: October 16th - EXHIBIT OPENING - Our final exhibit opening of the year will be held on Thursday, October 16th when we open up the newly reinterpreted News-Record Print Shop exhibit. This display will highlight the history of the newspapers in Campbell County as well as the machinery used to make and print those papers. Included are a linotype machine, three printing presses, and lots of type and smaller tools. Come and learn exactly how a newspaper was made prior to the computer age. At 6:00 p.m. that evening, we will be hosting Gillette News-Record editor and publisher Ann Franscell for a discussion on the history of the News-Record and other topics about the newspaper industry. Special guest Jack Nisselius, former publisher of the News-Record, will also be on hand. Our own local printing expert will also be available to answer questions about the machinery in the exhibit. Please join us for this great discussion and some light refreshments. November 1st - Annual Native American Artifact Show, Lecture, and Flintknappers The Rockpile Museum’s 13th annual Native American artifact show will be held on Saturday, November 1st from 10:00 to 3:00. Collectors from around the region will be at the museum to show off their finest artifacts. Drop in to check out these great collections of spearheads, arrowheads, jewelry, and tools. Flintknappers will also be on hand to demonstrate some of the techniques used in creating stone points and tools. Artifact expert and author Jeb Taylor will be here to discuss the progression of projectile points through time and highlight some of the important changes in point design. Anyone interested in displaying their collections should call the museum at 682-5723. November 1st - Traveling Exhibit - Sioux Ledger Diaries Exhibit November 1st will also be your first chance to see another great traveling exhibit from the Wyoming State Museum. Sioux Indian Ledger Drawings consists of thirty-six color drawings reproduced from a ledger book obtained from the Lakota Sioux in 1891. Subjects include war episodes, horse captures, and the Ghost Dance. December 2nd - Annual Christmas and Holiday Open House
