Juvenile Diversion

The Juvenile Diversion Program is a partnership between the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, the City of Gillette Police Department, the School District and the County Attorney’s Office. The program was started in 1999. Adolescents between the ages of 11 - 17 who have been cited for their first offense are eligible for the program.

Juveniles are on diversion from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the offense. If a juvenile successfully completes the program, the citation is voided and does not go on their record.

The Early Age Intervention Program is aimed at grade school and junior high age juveniles. A juvenile is referred to this program through a teacher, school resource officer, school counselor or by a deputy county attorney. This program is approximately 2 months long and includes weekly group meetings, a jail tour, community service, apology letters, one on one work with the school and enrollment of parents in parenting classes.
