The Wyoming State Flag and the Women Who Made It Fly

Sunday, January 26, 2020

Wyoming historian Kylie McCormick will present The Wyoming State Flag and the Women Who Made It Fly at Campbell County Public Library on Sunday, January 26 at 1:30pm.

The Wyoming chapter of the D.A.R., under the helm of Grace Raymond Hebard, was busy the summer of 1916 making arrangements for Wyoming to claim its official state symbols.

Returning home to Buffalo after graduating from the Art Institute of Chicago, Verna Keays Keyes answered their call to design a state flag.

The story of Wyoming’s flag is a story from 1916 to today, with roots in the suffragette movement, a naturalization cause, and World War I.

Discover the power of citizenship and legacy with historian Kylie McCormick in a celebration of Wyoming’s most beloved symbols.

McCormick is a historian born and raised in Casper, WY, who returned home after studying in Roanoke, Virginia; Berlin, Germany; London, U.K.; and Lincoln, Nebraska. She holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees, graduating summa cum laude, and a Master of Arts degree in History. Since returning to Wyoming, Kylie has dedicated herself to education and Wyoming history.
