Native American Educators Whitney Rencountre and Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre

Native American Educators, Whitney Rencountre and Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre will be sharing their culture and history through music, dance, and storytelling as part of the Rockpile Museum’s “Black & Yellow Theatre: Voices of the Powder River Basin” at 11am and 2pm, Saturday, March 14, 2020. Whitney Rencountre II is Dakota/Lakota, a Hunkpati Dakota of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. He is the 2019 Crazy Horse Memorial Foundation Educator of the Year Award winner. Whitney’s outlook is to share his culture with others with the goal of creating understanding and fostering positive change in our schools and communities. Jessie Taken Alive-Rencountre is a Hunkpapa Lakota from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. She is the 2017 Great Plains Emerging Tribal Writer’s Award winner for her children’s book Pet’a Shows Misun the Light. She is also a Lakota Jingle Dress Dancer and loves to educate others about Lakota culture using storytelling as well as song and dance.
