One Book Wyoming: Zoom Book Discussion

Wednesday, August 19, 2020

Campbell County Public Library wraps up One Book Wyoming activities with two opportunities to discuss "In Our Time" (1925) by Ernest Hemingway. Pick up a book at CCPL and join the discussion. CCPL: Tuesday, August 18, 6pm Zoom: Wednesday, August 19, 6pm Call 687.0115 to sign up.

One Book Wyoming, a state-wide program sponsored by the Wyoming State Library, is in conjunction with Sheridan College and Wyoming Humanities’ multi-year National Endowment for the Humanities grant “Creating Humanities Communities along the Hemingway Highway.”

Charles Fournier earned his Masters Degree in Literature from the University of Wyoming. Inspired by the Nobel Prize-winning author known for his controversial life, this One Book Wyoming presentation will explore Hemingway’s first major publication, In Our Time. Hemingway’s personal experiences with nature, war, trauma, and hyper-masculinity seep into his short stories. By looking at Hemingway’s life in relation to his writing, we will be able to see why Hemingway and his works are still worth digging into today.

Fournier writes and teaches a variety of topics from English to dancing to fire-making, most of them in association with East High School, Laramie County Community College, or the University of Wyoming. During his masters’ studies, he focused on Hemingway’s writing and his construction of persona. Fournier’s work has appeared in Safundi: The Journal of South African and American Studies and at a handful of international literary conferences. His favorite Hemingway quote, currently, is from the short story Indian Camp: “In the early morning on the lake sitting in the stern of the boat with his father rowing, he felt quite sure that he would never die.”
