The Liberation of Auschwitz CANCELED

Wednesday, October 14, 2020

"The Liberation of Auschwitz: A Historical Remembrance and Memorial," scheduled at Campbell County Public Library on October 14, is canceled. The library hopes to reschedule the event on a later date.

This presentation will focus on the Auschwitz extermination camp through a series of rare photographs—the only ones which somehow were allowed to be taken. In addition, Auschwitz will be placed within a context of the larger Holocaust and the forces which led to it.

Describing this presentation, Egan says “remembrance is the most powerful counter to the hatred that spawned the Holocaust. Six million is more than a number. It is six million individual lives, families, communities. Thus, there will also be a retelling of the life stories of some of those who perished.”

John Egan is a semi-retired historian who has taught at Sheridan College and the University of Kansas, focusing on Holocaust history and the history of 20th century genocides.

The program is free and open to the public. The materials are not appropriate for young children. Appropriate for high school students and up; may be for advanced middle school students. Seating in the Wyoming Room is limited to 50. Overflow seating for 24 to view the presentation virtually will be available in the library's Pioneer Rooms. First come, first served. This presentation will also be available via live stream on the library's YouTube channel (CCPLS YouTube)
