Dakota Daughters present "Wounded Knee, 1890"

Thursday, July 22, 2021

The Rockpile Museum and Rockpile Museum Association (RMA) will host Dakota Daughters Wounded Knee, 1890 at CAM-PLEX Heritage Center Theater on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. This performance is open to the public with a suggested $5 donation to the RMA. This play features the telling of the events related to the 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty and the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre. Dakota Daughters features Geraldine Goes In Center as a daughter of Sitting Bull, Lillian Witt as a rancher’s wife, and Joyce Jefferson as a formerly enslaved woman engaged to a Buffalo Soldier. There will be an Audience Talkback Session at the conclusion of the performance moderated by History Professor Donovin Sprague who, along with the cast, will be able to contextualize this play and the historical events it is based on. The Dakota Daughters appearance in Gillette would not be possible without the generous support of the RMA. This program has been made possible through a grant from Wyoming Humanities.
