Campbell County Public Library is hosting its second annual Ride and Read Car Show on Saturday, September 11. The show is open to the public 10am-2:30pm and features activities for all ages. Have a car you’d like to show? No pre-registration required; car check in starts at 9am.
Campbell County Classics & Customs is assisting the library with this event that will include cars (of course!); the Hot Rod Institute of Rapid City, SD; the Campbell County D.A.R.E. vehicle; library card signups; a kids’ corner; a 50/50 raffle benefiting The Library Foundation; food vendors: Liberty Sweets, Wild West Hot Dogs, Wyo Taco; and a strolling magician named Duffy Hudson.
The event will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a Presentation of Colors at 12:30pm by The American Legion Honor Guard and a living history presentation at 1pm titled 911: The Story of Flight 93 by award-winning actor, writer, and director Duffy Hudson.
The September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks killed 2,977 people and injured thousands at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Hudson’s program honors the American heroes aboard United Flight 93, one of four airplanes that was hijacked that day. Flight 93 crashed in a field and never reached its intended target thanks to the passengers’ heroic counterattack using lightning-quick thinking and incredibly brave actions against the terrorists. Hudson will introduce audience members to the courageous passengers, the determined crew, the resolute terrorists, and the speeding timeline as it played out on that fateful September day. Learn how these American heroes battled against terrorists over the skies of western Pennsylvania to save thousands of lives.
This performance is Hudson’s third at CCPL. Albert Einstein, Audie Murphy, and Ernest Hemingway all came to life at your library thanks to the talent of Mr. Hudson. He also entertained children at the library as The Cat in the Hat on one of his previous visits.
The day will be a perfect example of your library fulfilling its mission to provide diverse cultural opportunities for reading, learning and entertainment to all citizens of our community. Adventure starts here.
