The Way We Worked • L&H Industrial: Past, Present, and Future

Thursday, July 12, 2018

Campbell County Public Library is pleased to welcome Mike Wandler, president of L&H Industrial, to the library to discuss the the origins of L&H, the growth and development of the company and the industry in general, as well as L&H’s current work in the fields of mining, oil and gas, and railroads, and what the future might hold in the field of heavy industrial equipment. He will also discuss some of the special projects L&H has undertaken, such as the NASA transporter. This program is held in conjunction with the traveling Smithsonian exhibit, "The Way We Worked," which is currently open at the Rockpile Museum.

Mike is president and shareholder of L&H Industrial Inc. and part of the second generation of the family business designing and manufacturing components and equipment in the mining, oil and gas, railroad and other industries with heavy industrial equipment.

L&H Industrial opened in 1964 as a six-man welding shop in Gillette, Wyoming and has grown to a global manufacturer of heavy industrial equipment with over 500 employees worldwide. L&H is driven to keep operations and heavy equipment optimized for peak performance while integrating and improving safety throughout components and during maintenance of equipment.

Mike’s passion for manufacturing and repair of heavy industrial equipment started in 1982 when he began first working for his father at L&H, whom was Mike’s mentor in teaching him about business, improving designs, manufacturing high quality parts and offering great customer service. Mike’s mission at L&H is to assemble teams of great people who love what they do while creating honestly better solutions focused on safety, quality, service and innovation.

Mike also volunteers time to serving on boards and committees he believes can have a positive impact on industry, community and economy. He currently serves as a current board member of the Wyoming Business Council, Governors Board of Economic Diversification Owners and the Wyoming Aeronautics Advisory Committee.

Mike received a bachelor’s of business from Kennedy Western University and is also a graduate of the Harvard Owner President Management Program.

This program is in conjunction with The Way We Worked, a Smithsonian traveling exhibit on display at the Campbell County Rockpile Museum through July 15. The Way We Worked explores how work became such a central element in American culture by tracing the many changes that affected the workforce and work environments over the past 150 years. It is created by the National Archives and is part of Museum on Main Street, a collaboration between the Smithsonian Institution and state humanities councils nationwide. Support for Museum on Main Street has been provided by the United States Congress.
