The History of Blues in America

Tuesday, July 16, 2019

All ages are invited to Campbell County Public Library for a one-hour program led by music historian and acclaimed guitarist Joey Leone.

Leone and two other musicians will cover the history, influence, and impact of American blues music through songs, stories, and historical facts. As a uniquely American genre of music, Leone highlights the influence of blues on virtually all contemporary music over the past seven decades as well as a recurring theme of how this style of music brought people together in good times and bad. Joey will also give a unique perspective with personal stories and insights from his many years of performing in 22 countries and 49 states.

Leone has been playing music for over forty years, and has performed, toured, and recorded with artists as diverse as Albert Collins, Etta James, Vic Damone, Chaka Khan, Sam and Dave, Joe Perry (Aerosmith), Wilson Pickett, and Chubby Checker. His passion for the blues started as a young man growing up in Brooklyn, New York, and his primary access to music was the New York City Public Library system. In the past decade, in addition to his busy touring schedule as a performer, Joey has taught classes & workshops, published articles, and performed shows and programs across the country.
