Joyce Jefferson Presents “Aunt Lou” Marchbanks

Saturday, August 31, 2019

The Rockpile Museum invites you to hear the true story of a former Tennessee slave who became a successful and well-respected hotel owner/operator in the Black Hills. Joyce Jefferson, a South Dakota Humanities scholar, will portray Lucretia Marchbanks at a 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the museum. “Who Is Aunt Lou?” will explore the life of this amazing pioneer woman who could neither read nor write but managed to purchase and operate the Rustic Hotel in Sawpit Gulch, just down the road from Deadwood. Joyce Jefferson is appearing as part of new museum programming that is focused on sharing the cultural and natural history of the greater Powder River Basin. Campbell County Rockpile Museum Presents: Black & Yellow Theatre, voices of the Powder River Basin from the Black Hills to Yellowstone provides experiences at 11am and 2pm on Saturdays at the Rockpile Museum, providing guests an opportunity to interact with museum staff, volunteers, and special guests.
