Craig Grossi: Author, Marine Corps Veteran

Thursday, November 21, 2019

Campbell County Public Library is pleased to welcome Craig Grossi, former US Marine, and Fred, former Afghan stray, to the library to share their story! Grossi is an eight-year Marine Corps veteran, a recipient of the Purple Heart, and the author of "Craig & Fred: A Marine, A Stray Dog, and How They Rescued Each Other" (HarperCollins, 2017). This event is free and open to the public.

Come hear Craig's story of how man and dog rescued each other as well as the power of dogs and how his bond with Fred helped him adjust to civilian life and overcome obstacles.

Grossi was part of an elite team of Marines on his most dangerous Afghanistan assignment when he met a tail-wagging stray dog with a big head and little legs. From the moment they met, the two were inseparable. Grossi was determined to get Fred to America after he followed him everywhere in the field for two months.

After Afghanistan, Craig left the Marines in search of a new mission – to share his story and his adventures with Fred, and the message of “stubborn positivity” that Fred inspired. When not traveling with Fred, he works intensively with veteran organizations, including the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program and the Tragedy Assistance Programs for Survivors (TAPS). Previously, he worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency and attended Georgetown University.

Craig and Fred have appeared on The Today Show, Rachael Ray, Fox News, and been interviewed by The Washington Post, People Magazine and more...

Grossi's visit to Campbell County Public Library is made possible by The Library Foundation Inc.
