  1. Living Historian Joyce Jefferson Portrays Mary Kercherval at the Rockpile

    The Rockpile Museum is pleased to host South Dakota Humanities Speakers Bureau Scholar, Living Historian, and Storyteller Joyce Jefferson. Joyce provides First Person Living History programs that tell the stories of Dakota Territory and South Dakota Sheroes. Ms. Jefferson will be appearing as part of the ongoing Black & Yellow Theatre: Voices of the Powder River Basin programming at the Rockpile Museum. All Black & Yellow Theatre programs are included in the price of Museum Admission. Jefferson’s appearances will feature the life stories of four African American women who made a name for themselves from Northeast Wyoming to the Black Hills. Program subjects and times will be: Monday, July 19, 2021 – Sarah “Aunt Sally” Campbell (1823-1888) at 10am & 3pm. Tuesday, July 20, 2021 – Mary Kercherval (1833-1921) at 10am & 3pm.
