Matt was born in Sheridan, Wyoming. In 1963 he and his family relocated to Campbell County where he attended elementary school and graduated from high school. He then worked as a ranch hand and later became the ranch manager for Faddis-Kennedy Cattle Company.
In 1991 Matt and Diann, his wife of 45 years, took over Diann’s parents ranching operation after they retired. Matt enjoys working on their ranch, however due the time commitment and demands of being a Campbell County Commissioner, Matt has largely turned over the operation of the ranch to their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Matt is skilled at saddle-making and leather work. He also enjoys playing the guitar and singing in his free time.
Prior to being elected to the Board of Commissioners, Matt served six years on the Campbell County Fire Board. He has also served as a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Campbell County Fire Department for 35 years.
Matt was elected as Campbell County Commissioner in 2010 and began his first term in January 2011. Matt was re-elected to his second term in 2014. He served as Chairman in 2015. Matt has been proactively involved in a number of issues significant to Campbell County citizens at the state, regional and national level. Currently, Matt serves on the Wyoming Public Lands Committee, as well as the National Association of Counties’(NACo) Public Lands Committee. Additionally, Matt serves on NACo’s Board of Directors for the Western Interstate Region representing 15 western states which addresses issues unique to western states.
Family is one of the most important things to Matt and he is committed to spending quality time with his wife and their daughter’s family on a regular basis.
